Summer is a busy time for Christ Church and our partners at Triple C (Liverpool). At Christ Church Community Centre there is the playscheme for younger people, armchair exercise for older people, a big community party for everybody and that’s as well as the Foodbank, Coffee Morning and Connect n’ Create group… It’s at this time of year that the capacity of the current Centre is really stretched and the need for a new extended Centre most obvious!
Playscheme
Christ Church in partnership with Triple C has run a summer playscheme for local primary school children for a number of years. It is a fantastic project run mostly by local volunteers of all ages that engages and supports local children and families during the Summer holidays. For more information about this year’s playscheme that runs until August 10th, please contact our Children & Families Worker
Armchair Exercise
Christ Church has teamed up with Alt Valley Communiversity to offer armchair exercise for older people at Christ Church Community Centre every Thursday through the summer 1-230pm. A good time is shared by all as bodies are stretched, minds are relaxed and good company is shared with a nice cup of tea to finish! If you would like more information please contact our Older Person’s Worker
Summer Party
Every year, Christ Church hosts a Summer Party for our local community at Christ Church Community Centre, and this year is no different! This year’s event will take place on Sunday 21st August 11.30am-3pm. There will be live music from The Waltones, Bouncy Castle, Face Painting, Classic Games (e.g. Splat the Rat), Craft Stall, Competitions and Prizes, Dance and Taekwondo demonstrations, and of course a BBQ!
Entry, the BBQ, and most of the activities are completely free of charge… there will be some fundraising activities for the New Christ Church Community Centre as well, so do bring some cash along with you if you want to support us in this way! One example is Bill’s Purple Perm-Bill Melia is raising money by walking around with his hair died purple until the party where, if he has raised enough money, will shave it all off! If you can’t stand the sight of Bill’s Purple Perm please sponsor this very worthy cause!
Summer Worship
With Leamington School undergoing renovation work this summer, Christ Church is ‘on the road’, worshipping in new ways at different venues across Norris Green (see below for details of where we are and when!)
We have been trialling something called Explore Together – a new practical and interactive way for all ages to explore faith together- at Norris Green Youth Centre (a huge thank you to them for kindly taking us in for a few weeks!). Alongside this we have a service called Reflect Together – a quieter and more reflective space to worship at Christ Church Community Centre.
On other weeks we are joining with our friends in neighbouring churches- St Christopher’s and The Good Shepherd, for a united ‘Songs of Praise’ service and picnic at St Christopher’s Church on Broad Lane.
